Island Hopping along the Croatian Coast aboard the Princess Eleganza

  • 2 August 2020
  • History and Culture
  • Vis

This heady mix of islands and ports represents a fascinating itinerary combining as it does some ‘must see’ sites together with little known places that are a world away from the well-trodden tourist trail along with quiet spots and out-of-the way beaches which the Croats themselves escape to. As we make our way along the coast we will witness a range of scenic delights including the world-famous Kornati Islands and the delightful islands of Vis, Hvar and Korcula to name but a few. In addition to our included guided excursions, we have allowed ample time at leisure and there will also be opportunities to swim from the ship as we call into secluded bays and hidden coves and, taking advantage of our central moorings, to dine ashore and experience the atmospheric ports in their evening splendour.

Itinerary

  • Rab
  • Vis

Day 1 London Heathrow to Opatija, Croatia.

Fly by scheduled flight to Zagreb and transfer to the Princess Eleganza moored in Opatija. After settling into your cabin, enjoy the welcome cocktail and dinner on board. We will moor overnight allowing time to enjoy an after dinner walk in this genteel resort.

Day 2 Rab.

We sail during breakfast for the island of Rab stopping for a swim on the way should the conditions allow. Arriving this afternoon we will enjoy some time at leisure and an early evening guided walk through the picturesque Old Town, a perfectly preserved late Medieval Adriatic settlement squeezed into a slender peninsula along which are dotted a sequence of Romanesque campaniles. We have the opportunity this evening to dine ashore and sample one of the many local restaurants and we will remain moored overnight in the harbour.

Day 3 Pag & Zadar.

This morning we cruise towards Zadar stopping at the island of Pag for a morning swim. Once a dominant city on the Adriatic coast rivalling Venice, Zadar is today a treasured city which has preserved its historical core. Enjoy an afternoon walking tour strolling around the old town with its Roman columns and portals, Romanesque churches and Renaissance and Baroque palaces. Of particular interest are the 9th century circular Church of St Donat and the 13th century Romanesque cathedral. In the evening we have the chance to dine in one of the many restaurants in Zadar as we moor overnight.

Day 4 Kornati Islands & Sibenik.

Spend the morning sailing by the islands that make up the Kornati archipelago, a wonder of natural beauty, coves and clear blue waters. George Bernard Shaw fell in love with the islands saying “On the last day of Creation God desired to crown His work, and thus created the Kornati islands out of tears, stars and breath.” We hope to stop at one of the islands for a swim before continuing to Sibenik where we enjoy an early evening walking tour through the historic town before having the chance to find a restaurant for dinner this evening.

Day 5 Krka Waterfalls & Hvar.

After breakfast on board, we visit the majestic waterfalls of Krka. We will take a guided walk on wooden walkways and across bridges through this unique fjord like landscape with its multiple waterfalls and interesting flora and fauna. Sail after lunch to Hvar arriving at our berth at Stari Grad this evening where we enjoy a barbeque dinner on deck.

Day 6 Hvar & Pakleni Islands.

After breakfast we take a brief walking tour of the Old Town of Hvar including the main square, which is the largest piazza in Dalmatia, the cathedral, the Franciscan Monastery and the Benedictine Nunnery, where we hear about the aloe lace still produced today by the nuns. We will leave Hvar during lunch and spend some time this afternoon at anchor in one of the private bays on the Pakleni Islands, a series of stunning wooded isles located off the coast of Hvar. Take a swim or enjoy the beautiful views before sailing to Vis for our overnight berth. Take the chance to dine ashore this evening.

Day 7 Vis & Lastovo Island.

This morning we depart for an island tour of Vis. The island spent much of its recent history serving as a Yugoslav military base, cut off from foreign visitors from the 1950s right up until 1989. This isolation preserved it from development, and today it offers an authentic tranquility and unique beauty. We return to the ship for lunch and sail to the Lastovo archipelago, made up of 13 islands and recognised as a Nature Park. We will take the chance to swim in one of the islands bays where we will stay at anchor overnight.

Day 8 Lastovo Island & Korcula.

Sail this morning and enjoy another swim off Lastovo Island before we arrive, over lunch, in Korcula, the reputed birthplace of the explorer Marco Polo. A guided tour will include a walk along Korcula’s crooked Medieval streets to the elegant squares which are flanked with palaces of the old nobility. Enjoy dinner ashore as we moor overnight.

Day 9 Jakljan & Dubrovnik.

We set sail this morning towards the mainland and if weather permits will make a final swimming stop at the uninhabited island of Jakljan in the Elafiti Islands. We continue to Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic“, where we arrive after lunch. After a short drive to Pile Gate, enjoy an afternoon guided walk through the unique Medieval Old Town of Dubrovnik, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. See the major attractions such as the Rector’s Palace, the Romanesque- Gothic Dominican and Franciscan Monasteries and the Sponza Palace. Return to the ship for our farewell dinner on board this evening.

Day 10 Dubrovnik to London Gatwick.

Disembark this morning and transfer to the airport for our scheduled flight to London.

  • Korcula
  • Zadar

Usually all meals are served in the Dining Room but if you wish to enjoy your lunch or dinner in the outside area, please inform your Cruise Director that morning. Please keep in mind that during the summer months it can be very hot and/or windy. Fish and shellfish feature regularly on the lunch and dinner menus so if you do not, or cannot, eat these, please advise Noble Caledonia (in writing) in advance, and reconfirm with your Cruise Director on board.

Please be advised that as there is not a choice at meal times it is imperative that should you have any special dietary requests, you advise Noble Caledonia (in writing) in advance and we recommend that you also reconfirm with your Cruise Director once on board. Please advise if you do not eat red meat or are vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian, gluten free, lactose intolerant, low salt, or low cholesterol, as well as if you have any allergies/food intolerances. We regret that not all dietary requests can be guaranteed. If you have any specific or special foods that you require we recommend that you take some with you although we will endeavour to accommodate your needs.

Complimentary self-service tea and coffee, with fruit and biscuits, are available in the restaurant 24 hours a day. House wine, beer and soft drinks are included with lunch and dinner on board. Bar drinks and other beverages with meals are not included.

During your time aboard the Princess Eleganza there will be several evenings where meals are to be taken ashore under your own arrangements, and several evenings where dinner is included on board. Whilst the number of included meals on board is fixed, please note that the order of the days may change and, if so, this will be advised once on board.

On nights when you are free to dine independently ashore, if you instead wish to stay on board for dinner, this is possible at a rate of €25 per person each time, which will be added to your onboard account. 24 hours advance notice is required.

    Disabled Facilities

The ship does not have facilities for disabled or wheelchair dependent passengers. The stairs between decks are steep and there is no lift or chair lift on board.

Passengers requiring special medication are advised to bring a supply with them. Should you need to restock your medication, please advise your Cruise Director or a member of the crew as soon as possible as pharmacy opening hours in Croatia are restricted.

    Dress Code

On board the emphasis is on comfortable and casual clothing at all times. The dress code is very informal. You may like to wear smart casual clothing for the welcome and farewell dinners, and when dining ashore. Going Ashore Individually: When you go ashore individually, please be back on board at least 15 minutes before the advertised departure time of the ship. We kindly ask that you return to the ship no later than 11pm after which the outside doors of the ship will be locked. If you plan to stay out longer, please let your Cruise Director know.

Meals ashore: Please ask your Cruise Director for a list of recommended restaurants. If you should find a restaurant that was not mentioned and you liked it, please let your Cruise Director know for the benefit of future passengers. Whilst most restaurants accept major credit and debit cards, we recommend you check before ordering.

    Gratuities

Gratuities to crew and whilst on excursions are included in the cost of your holiday.

    Housekeeping

As there is only one housekeeper, you are kindly requested to hang out the “Please clean my cabin” sign whilst you are at breakfast. If you are in cabin 1, 2 or 18, please place the sign between the door and the frame.

    Internet

The ship offers a free Wi-Fi connection in the public areas and in the cabins. The password is “princess1”. Depending on the ship’s location, there may be times when the connection is very slow or is disrupted and the same level of connectivity that you enjoy at home cannot be expected on board.

    Language

All members of the crew speak English.

    Laundry Service

Due to the size of the ship there is no laundry service on board.

    Life Jackets

Your life jacket can be found in your cabin. Please do not remove the life jackets from this location.

    Life Raft

The ship carries a life raft.

    Lost Property

Before you disembark the ship, please check your cabin to ensure you do not leave anything behind. If you discover you have left any items behind, please contact Noble Caledonia within 7 days of disembarking. If we are able to recover your item(s) we will contact you to arrange delivery or collection, and any costs incurred will be at your own expense.

    Money

On board: A “cashless” system is operated on board and any purchases will be charged to your cabin account. Bar prices are displayed in Euros, but the final account can be settled in Croatian Kuna, Euros or British Pounds at the end of your cruise. Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards are accepted on board. Personal cheques and Travellers’ Cheques are not accepted.

Ashore: Please note that the currency in Croatia is the Croatian Kuna, and the currency in Montenegro is Euro. Most major credit cards are accepted, but please check before making your purchase in shops, or ordering your meal or drinks in restaurants and bars.

    Public Areas

Reception: Reception is located on the Upper Deck where there is a small library of books, games and DVDs.

Restaurant: The restaurant is located on the Promenade Deck and also encompasses an outside dining area. The tea/coffee station is located in the restaurant. There are also two toilets in this area.

Sun Deck: There are several sun loungers, casual seating and some tables. When using the sun loungers it is kindly requested that, if Sun Lotion is applied / worn, the provided beach towels are used to protect the loungers.

    Questionnaire

Your comments are important to us therefore before your cruise ends, you will receive a questionnaire. We are always looking for ways to improve your holiday and in order to do this we need some feedback from our guests. Kindly hand your completed questionnaire in to your Cruise Director.

    Quietvox

During our excursions, we use an audio system called Quietvox. In your cabin there is a charging station with two devices and two sets of earpieces. Please keep your devices in the charging station (and the station plugged in) whilst you are not on an excursion. Bring the sets with you on excursions as your guides with speak to you through their microphone. The use of the equipment will be explained before the first excursion starts.

    Safe

There is a safe in every cabin, together with instructions. We recommend that you leave money and other valuables in the safe. Kindly remember to remove all items from the safe before disembarking the ship at the end of your cruise. Please note that the safe is not fireproof and neither the ship, nor Noble Caledonia, are responsible for any valuables left in the cabins.

    Safety Drill

The safety briefing will take place prior to sailing. All guests must attend this compulsory and important exercise. Please listen for the announcements.

    Sanitiser

Please use the hand sanitisers near reception and the restaurant.

    Ship’s Berth

At busy times during the season there may not be enough berths immediately adjacent to the pier. It will then be necessary to berth two or more vessels side by side, allowing passengers to pass through the neighbouring ship(s) to go ashore. This requires special care, as ships are not allowed to have a permanent gangway between them. Views from cabins may therefore also be restricted.

    Smoking

Smoking is restricted to the designated open areas only. Smoking is prohibited in all other areas including cabins and the restaurant.

    Swimming

Please be advised that whilst we aim to provide swimming opportunities during your cruise, it is dependent on the itinerary, weather conditions and sea temperature. Swimming from the ship will only be offered when there is a minimum water temperature of 21 degrees celsius and is permitted at the Captain’s discretion. There is no snorkelling equipment on board the ship.

    Television

There is a television in each cabin. TV reception depends on the satellite dish and on occasion it may not be possible to receive a signal.

    Toilets

Please do not put anything into the toilet except toilet paper.

    Towels

Towels will be changed once in the middle of your cruise. Should you need new towels earlier, please let the housekeeper know. Please do not use the bathroom towels on the beach. A separate towel for swimming will be provided.

    Water

The tap water in your cabin is not potable. In order to reduce the damage caused to the environment and wildlife by plastic, we have placed a reusable steel water bottle in your cabin which can be filled using the central filtered water system which provides unlimited water throughout your cruise. Please kindly ensure bottles are left in your cabin on departure.

PLEASE NOTE: The information contained in this booklet should be used as a guideline only. Information is subject to change.

Please note that no ties or jackets for the gentlemen, and no formal dresses for the ladies are required.

    Electricity

The cabins feature 220 volt current, with sockets accepting 2 round-pin (European style) sockets. There are no sockets in the bathrooms. We recommend taking a universal adaptor.

    Emergencies

In the unlikely event of an emergency you will be informed by a loudspeaker announcement. You will be asked to collect your life jacket from the cabin, proceed to the marked Muster Station on the Upper Deck and to follow instructions given by the Captain or crew members.

    First Aid

We have an emergency first aid kit on board. If you require any item please contact your Cruise Director or a member of the crew. All crew are trained in First Aid.

    Going Ashore

Passengers Ashore Tally Board: There is a tally board on the gangway. Please move the button from “IN” to “OUT” when you go ashore, and move it back on return. If only one passenger of a cabin of two is going out, please move the button into an intermediate position.

Going Ashore Individually: When you go ashore individually, please be back on board at least 15 minutes before the advertised departure time of the ship. Please do not leave valuables in public areas, and please remember to lock your cabin. We kindly ask that you return to the ship no later than 11pm after which the outside doors of the ship will be locked. If you plan to stay out longer, please let your Cruise Director know.

Shore Excursions: Please be on time for the organised excursions, so as not to keep others waiting. All shore excursions are included in your holiday price. If you do not wish to participate in an excursion, please let your Cruise Director know.
