Mekong Star

For our journey along the Mekong, we are delighted to have chartered the Mekong Star, a newly launched, boutique river vessel with just 12 elegant cabins. This premium riverboat provides an ideal base from which to traverse Laos’ enchanting landscapes of lush jungles, dramatic limestone karsts, and historic riverside towns, and the warm and attentive onboard staff of 17 will provide you with excellent service throughout.

    Your Cabin/Suite

    There are six Deluxe Cabins measuring 21 square metres and four Executive Cabins measuring 29 square metres. These cabins are located on both the Upper and Main Decks. The two Signature Suites are located on the Upper Deck and measure 39 square metres. All cabins/suites feature a private balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows, minibar, safe, and air-conditioning. The en-suite bathrooms are equipped with rain shower, WC, hairdryer, and toiletries.

    The restaurant is located on the Upper Deck and has indoor and covered outdoor seating. The menu is a combination of international cuisine and local dishes, all freshly prepared. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style whilst dinners are a four-course set menu with a vegetarian option. House wine, beer and soft drinks are included during meals and mineral water, tea and coffee, fresh fruit and snacks are complimentary throughout your time on board.

    The Mekong Star features beautifully designed public spaces for all guests to enjoy. Relax on the sun deck’s loungers while taking in the breathtaking views of Laos's impressive mountain ranges. Treat yourself to soothing spa treatments or browse the cosy library's collection of books. There are two bars which offer a variety of cocktails and spirits as well as beer and a selection of wines. There is complimentary Wi-Fi on board.

    AIR-CONDITIONING

    Cabins on board are equipped with air-conditioning. Once turned on, it takes up to 20 minutes to reach the desired temperature. Please turn the system off when you leave the cabin for a longer period.

    CABIN/SUITE FACILITIES & SIZES

    There are six Deluxe Cabins measuring 21 square metres and four Executive Cabins measuring 29 square metres. These cabins are located on both the Upper and Main Decks. The two Signature Suites are located on the Upper Deck and measure 39 square metres. Each of the 12 elegant, tastefully furnished exterior cabins offers a private balcony, breathtaking views through floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, a cosy seating area, minibar, Nespresso machine, safe, and individually controlled air-conditioning. Beds can be configured as either a double or twin beds, according to your preference. The en-suite bathrooms are equipped with a rain shower and toilet, with hairdryer and toiletries provided for your convenience. Bathrobes, slippers and refillable water bottles are also supplied for each guest.

    DAILY PROGRAMME

    The daily programme is printed on board and delivered to your cabin/suite each evening. It provides details of the following day’s programme, mealtimes, and other activities, as well as interesting and helpful information about your next port of call.

    DRESS CODE

    Comfortable and practical attire is recommended during the day and something a little dressier for the evening (black tie is not necessary).

    DRINKING WATER

    The tap water from the water treatment system on board is not drinking water but can be used for washing and showering. Unlimited drinking water is available for you on board. The ship will provide you with aluminum bottles and carafes, which you can refill at any time at the water stations. Please also use this drinking water for brushing your teeth. Still mineral water is served with meals and is also used to prepare the food.

    ELECTRICITY

    The voltage in Southeast Asia is officially 220/50Hz. In the cabin you will find sockets with two contact pins and 220 volts.

    EMERGENCY & SAFETY PROCEDURE

    In the event of an emergency, you can find your life jackets in your cabin wardrobe. Additional life jackets and life belts are available on other parts of the ship. In the event of an emergency, the ship’s alarm bells will sound continuously. Please follow the instructions of the crew, who are fully trained in emergency procedures. A mandatory safety drill will take place shortly after departure from the first port.

    GIFT SHOP

    There is a small gift shop on board selling a selection of local handicrafts.

    GRATUITIES

    Gratuities have been included in your holiday price.

    HOUSEKEEPING

    Your cabin or suite will be serviced twice daily, with a morning service and evening turndown. Should you require fresh towels, or if you would like to have your bed linen changed, please inform the Cruise Director.

    LAUNDRY

    A laundry service is provided on board at an additional cost. Guests staying in the Suites benefit from a complimentary laundry service. Please note that restrictions may apply for delicate or specialised fabrics.

    LIBRARY & GAMES

    A small selection of books is available for use on board. Please return all books to the library before the end of the cruise. There is also a selection of board games.

    LOST PROPERTY

    Lost property should be handed to the ship’s Reception. Please ensure you have all of your belongings with you before you return home. If we are able to recover your item(s) we will contact you to arrange delivery or collection and to advise of any associated costs.

    MEALS

    The onboard restaurant serves a selection of international and local dishes with both indoor seating and a covered outdoor area. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, while dinners are a 4-course set menu with a vegetarian option. Still mineral water, tea and coffee are complimentary at all times. House wine, beer and soft drinks are included with lunch and dinner. If you have any dietary requirements such as vegetarian, low salt, gluten free or low cholesterol, please notify the Reservations Department at Noble Caledonia. We regret that not all dietary requests can be guaranteed. If you have any specific or special foods that you require, we recommend that you take some with you although we will endeavour to accommodate your needs. Once on board, please speak to the Cruise Director on your first night to reconfirm your requirements.

    MEDICAL

    The vessel is equipped with first aid and key medical supplies. All senior staff members and IMO certified personnel have attended first aid courses. In the event of serious illness or accidents, further medical assistance can be sought from the nearest hospitals.

    SUN PROTECTION/MOSQUITOES/INSECT PRECAUTIONS

    Please bring sunscreen, headgear, long-sleeved clothing and sunglasses with UVA/UVB protection. Mosquitoes are rarely a problem on board, as the Mekong is a fast-flowing body of water and mosquitoes prefer calm waters. All windows are fitted with a mosquito net to protect against insects. After leaving your cabin, please turn off the lights behind you to avoid attracting insects.

    PAYMENTS ON BOARD

    All prices on board are shown in US Dollars. The following currencies are accepted on board: US Dollar and Lao Kip. During the cruise, the ship operates a cashless system, with all purchases billed to your onboard account. At the end of the cruise, you will be presented with your final bill which can be settled in cash (US Dollars or Lao Kip) or by credit card (Visa or MasterCard). The ship does not provide a currency exchange service, nor is there an ATM on board.

    QUESTIONNAIRES

    We are always looking for ways to improve our holidays and the services provided and in order to do this we welcome feedback from our guests. Your comments are important to us therefore we request that you complete the questionnaire that will be provided to you by your Tour Manager.

    SPA

    There is a dedicated spa room on the Main Deck. Spa treatments are displayed at reception and in the cabins.

    SAFE

    Each cabin/suite is equipped with a safe deposit box. Please follow the instructions provided but please do ask a member of the crew for assistance if required.

    SMOKING

    On board the ship, smoking is only permitted in certain areas on the sundeck. For safety reasons, smoking is not allowed in cabins and other areas of the ship; smoke detectors are installed in these places for your safety.

    TOILETRIES

    A selection of toiletries is provided including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, body lotion and a shower cap.

    WI-FI

    Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the ship. Large parts of the route travelled on your cruise are still without network coverage. Significant portions of the cruise route may have limited or no connectivity.
