 Trustees of the NCCT

Dear Traveller,

It was decided in 2013 that it was time to form a Charitable Trust with the aim giving back support to many of the remote and undeveloped places in the world that Noble Caledonia’s vessels and tours visit each year. Since its formation the Trust has donated to numerous good causes mostly in Asia, Africa and Antarctica as well as closer to home particularly in Scotland with donations to the Outer Hebrides.  Our priorities lean toward education, health and natural disasters. After all, it feels right to support places in the world which give so much pleasure to our travellers as well as making our business possible. Every year Noble Caledonia makes a sizeable donation to the Trust and, on occasions, financially matches donations raised by our passengers for a particular cause. The Trust has no employees and is operated by the Trustees and the office and onboard staff which allows the charity to make donations free of any costs or charges.

Thank you for your support.

NCCT Trustees

Katarina Salen

Katarina is a Director of the board and proud part-owner of Noble Caledonia Ltd and our flag ships Island Sky and Hebridean Sky. Katarina started her career as field staff on expedition ships exploring the seven seas and continents for two decades. As one of the initiators of Noble Caledonia Charitable Trust, she is most passionate about supporting local communities and wildlife areas, which we have visited over the years on our Noble Caledonia cruises, river cruises, train journeys and land tours.

Andrew Cochrane MBE

Andrew founded Noble Caledonia in 1991 having worked for numerous companies including P&O in a career in travel lasting over 50 years. In founding Noble Caledonia, Andrew believed the time was right to introduce Expedition and Small Ship Cruising to the UK. At the time cruise vessels were growing in size and there was very little on the UK market for those who preferred their ships small and without all entertainments and amusements offered by the mainstream cruise companies. Fortunately, the company received great support from those looking for more imaginative itineraries and a private yacht-like atmosphere. The company ethos has remained constant over the decades. Andrew remains a Director of Noble Caledonia and the Chair of the Charitable Trust. He regards himself as extremely lucky to have had such an interesting and rewarding career and still be in a position to support those in a less favourable position around the world.

Dr Kim Crosbie

Kim is a Director and Chairs’ the Boards of Noble Caledonia Ltd and Salén Ship Management. Having started her career in the field before moving to shore-based work, Kim remains passionate about ensuring that tourism is a force for good for the destinations visited, through both a high-quality experience for visitors and also by supporting small local projects that can have a big impact on the local communities and their environments. As well as being a trustee of the Noble Caledonia Charitable Trust she is also the Chair of the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust.

Sally McColgan

Sally worked at Noble Caledonia for 30 years, taking on various roles ranging from shore excursion planning to HR. During her tenure at Noble, Sally established and administered the Noble Caledonia Charitable Trust (NCCT). During her time as a Trustee since 2013 Sally has played an instrumental role in numerous NCCT projects. Her contributions span a variety of initiatives, including the donation of fishing boats in the Philippines, educational projects in Cape Verde, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, and Madagascar, as well as conservation projects in Indonesia, the Seychelles, and Africa, among many others. Since leaving the company in 2022, Sally has continued in her role as a Trustee, leveraging her extensive knowledge and experience in taking advantage of the Noble framework to enhance economic, social, and environmental conditions in the regions visited by Noble travellers.

Pam Le Noury

Pam has enjoyed a 25 year career at sea as a skipper, scuba instructor, marine scientist, expedition leader and speaker. She joined Noble Caledonia’s expedition voyages in 2008 and has since led over 120 expeditions worldwide from the Arctic to the South Pacific to the Antarctic to Madagascar and everywhere between.  Eager to ensure her love for wilderness travel has a higher purpose for herself and for the guests, she has been an enthusiastic field champion for NCCT projects. Pam is now Head of Expedition Operations and Sustainability at Noble Caledonia, is still involved in marine science and conservation projects at home in South Africa. She was most honoured to join the NCCT board of trustees as secretary in 2021. Finding and activating funding for small unique projects around the globe is the most rewarding way to give back to the people and destinations we love to visit.

Chantal Cookson

Chantal was born in Suffolk very near the sea and now lives in Northumberland where her husband farms and when possible, they go to their cottage in Suffolk. Chantal has been associated with Noble Caledonia since the company was founded and was part of the Expedition Team for many years on the MS Caledonian Star and has led tours, be it cruising or land, all over the world. Chantal’s initial experience of cruising was in British waters in 1991 when Noble Caledonia operated the first cruise around the British Isles, which was a ground breaking voyage and led to a very successful and popular concept. Though her main job for over 25 years was working for Sotheby’s, she is now a Travel and Fine Art Consultant intertwining in her busy life still working periodically as part of the Noble Caledonia Expedition Team and also as a Tour Leader on Land Tours, especially the UK based garden tours. From the Arctic to the Antarctica, South America to Australia, Africa, India, The Seychelles, Indonesian Islands and many other destinations Chantal has been able to pursue her love of the oceans and photography. Chantal is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Chantal also counts it as a great privilege to be a one of the Trustees of the Noble Caledonia Charitable Trust.

Laura Cochrane

Laura has been associated with Noble Caledonia since her father Andrew established the company in 1991. After gaining a degree in History from King’s College London, Laura began her full-time career with Noble Caledonia in 2002 and is currently the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Laura is passionate about travel and the experiences which Noble Caledonia can offer aboard their small ships, along with the support which the Trust can provide the small communities they visit.

Peter Hinchliffe

Peter Hinchliffe is a barrister and Tribunal Judge with long experience in the charity and not-for-profit sector. Peter is a Judge on the Charity Tribunal and other tribunals. He has worked for Cancer Research UK and the Charities Aid Foundation and as a trustee of the UK’s largest free legal advice charity.  He currently holds non-executive positions with Ofgem, the Central Bank of Ireland and the Access Disputes Committee of Network Rail. He has previously worked as an independent decision maker for a number of regulatory bodies and as an Ombudsman. Prior to taking up the trustee role at NCCT, Peter had no connection with Noble Caledonia and he remains an independent trustee.
