Covid Support & Training - Cambodia
The pandemic has decimated development gains around the world, setting back years of progress in education and economic prospects, especially for those at the bottom of society. It also continues to fundamentally alter the needs of our beneficiaries and thus, how our partners in Cambodia, Friends International responds.
Throughout 2021, with growing numbers of the communities they work in facing hunger and unable to meet other basic needs, they have had to shift their approach to a much greater emphasis on food relief and immediate emergency support, combining this with sustainable longer-term support where possible.
With NCCT’s £13,000 donation in 2022, they can:
- Transform their vocational training restaurants into Emergency Soup Kitchens and distribute meals to street-living and other vulnerable families
- Upscale the provision of needs-based emergency support packages for families unable to meet needs including rent, food, hygiene items etc
- Train children, youth and caregivers in how to protect themselves and others from COVID-19
- Upskill their ChildSafe Agents to extend the reach of their Outreach Teams during periods of restricted movement, including training them in COVID-19 sensitisation
- Work with the government to register street-living people and support them to get vaccinated
- Advocate for the rights of street children and vulnerable populations facing violence, government ‘clean-ups’ and removal from cities due to concerns about COVID among street population
The NCCT’s funding has been critical in enabling the agility needed to develop and adapt these services to respond to changing needs and contexts.
