  • 2023 Earthquake Appeal

2023 Earthquake Appeal

In 2023 Turkey and Syria were hit by a series of catastrophic earthquakes. More than 47,000 people died, with thousands more left injured, and without a home. Even before the disaster, 14.6 million people in Syria were in need of humanitarian assistance.

Noble Caledonia Charitable Trust was already familiar with the work of Hands Up Foundation, a UK based charity providing on-the-ground aid in Syria, for some time. We were proud to direct our fundraising efforts towards their Earthquake Appeal, with a donation of £1000 from NCCT.

Hands Up has been working with their partners in and around Syria for nearly a decade, providing funds for vital health and education projects to communities where access to these services is limited, if available at all. With their partners’ expertise and experience, they have been able to provide these services to vulnerable communities, despite the fact that many other organisations have all but deserted this part of the world.

Their Emergency Earthquake Appeal is raising funds to provide vital medication and equipment. So far, they have raised over £170,000 and more is needed. With their long-standing partners Physicians Across Continents (PAC) and the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), these are already being used for medical equipment for post-traumatic care (e.g. dialysis kits), baby milk for orphans or mothers who are unable to breastfeed, lab consumables (e.g. syringes), orthopaedic consumables (e.g. surgeons’ drills) and salaries for medical staff. Further funds will be distributed in the coming days and weeks.

These earthquakes are yet another brutal blow to people who have experienced years of destruction as a result of the conflict in Syria. The road to recovery will be long and challenging, but with your help and generosity, Hands Up will be there to enable their partners to deliver aid both now, in the immediate aftermath, and beyond.

Thank you.
