Archaeological Sites of the Caribbean & Central America with Phoebe Olsen
This interesting talk from archaeologist and Expedition Leader, Phoebe Olsen, focuses on the some of the places of archaeological interest that we visit during our journeys in and around the Caribbean and Central America. Phoebe’s talk brings us from the Mayan Temples in Belize to the caves in the Los Haitises National Park in the Dominican Republic which were used for rituals and refuge. We continue to Nicaragua to view the pre-Hispanic statues and on to El Salvador where we discover Joya de Ceren, often referred to as the ‘Pompeii of the Americas’ and Tazumal, the largest pyramid in El Salvador. The talk concludes in Guatemala and the ancient Mayan citadel of Tikal which can be visited on our cruise extensions.
