Noble Caledonia Field Staff represent the company in the field and are all passionate guides with a rich background in their various areas of expertise.
Here at Noble Caledonia we recruit for the following types of travel and roles:
DESTINATION CRUISING
(generally more developed areas where the ship comes alongside in a port, no Zodiac tenders)
Cruise Director (CD)
Ensures the smooth and safe delivery of the tour arrangements that Noble Caledonia have advertised and planned, by liaison with all ship departments, office and land agents. The CD keeps our passengers informed and engaged, and aims to exceed their expectations.
Cruise Manager
Responsible for maintaining high and consistent standards in the delivery of the programme and hotel side. Lead guest liaison and ensures full spectrum of guests are considered in tour offerings and on board. Works closely with operations manager in the head office.
Assistant Cruise Director (ACD)
Supports the CD, needs to be very organised and is responsible for the dozens of ‘little things’ that make a trip smooth and special. ACD should be personable, always on hand to assist passengers, and often acts a liaison between the ship and office.
Tour Manager (TM)
Supports the CD/ACD, is on hand to assist passengers, escorts groups to and from products as well as on tours, often the liaison between local tour service providers and our group.
Guest Speaker (GS)
Enhances passengers knowledge and enjoyment of the tour/cruise through a series of lectures in their chosen subject.

EXPEDITION CRUISING 
(generally more undeveloped / remote / wilderness areas. All field staff are contracted as crew and need to be certified seafarers, qualified powerboat drivers, experienced naturalists and, preferably, can cover a specialist subject such as birding, history, botany, geology, etc.)
All expedition staff are required to be qualified seafarers and powerboat drivers with the following certificates:
- Powerboat driving certifications (RYA Level 2, PTGA Level 2 or equivalent) PLUS a minimum of 20 zodiac driving hours PLUS have driven in the last 12 months
- Seafarers medical certificate (Should be issued in compliance with STCW 1978 (Regulation I/9) and MLC 2006 (Regulation 1.2). UK standard is ‘ENG1’ medical. )
- Seaman’s book (from your country OR Viking, our marine recruiter, can order a Bahamas book for you, at your expense, £35, but plan for 3 months turn-around)
- Security Awareness course (STCW A-VI 6-4) – can be done online
- Crowd Management (STCW Sec A-V2 1-2) – can be done online
- Basic first aid course – can be done online. Wilderness first aid considered a bonus.
- Fully COVID vaccinated with booster
- Yellow fever vaccination or exemption
EL, CM & AEL roles additionally need full STCW basic safety training: Personal Survival Techniques (STCW A-VI/1-1) Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention (STCW A-VI/1-2) Elementary First Aid (STCW A-VI/1-3) Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (STCW A-VI/1-4)

Expedition Roles are:
Expedition Leader (EL):
Ensures the smooth and safe delivery of the expedition, by liaison with all ship departments, office and land agents. The EL works closely with the captain and manages an expedition team of 10-12 staff. The EL is expected to be an experienced Zodiac driver who can complete daily risk assessments. The EL keeps passengers informed and engaged, keeping the safety and enjoyment of the passengers at heart while aiming to deliver the advertised programme or make suitable changes according to the weather and other circumstances.
Cruise Manager
Responsible for maintaining high and consistent standards in the delivery of the programme and hotel side. Lead guest liaison and ensures full spectrum of guests are considered in tour offerings and on board. Works closely with operations manager in the head office.
Assistant Expedition Leader (AEL):
Supports the EL, needs to be very organised and is responsible for the dozens of ‘little things’ that make a trip smooth and special. AEL should be personable, always on hand to assist passengers, and often acts a liaison between the ship and office. The AEL should be an experienced Zodiac driver and is often responsible for Zodiac disembarkation which involves managing staff drivers, liaison with bridge and shore teams, risk assessment.
Naturalist/ Zodiac Driver (Nat/ZD):
Provides expert naturalist knowledge relevant to the cruise through talks on board and guiding ashore as well as driving Zodiacs. Naturalists / guides that can cover specialist subjects are most in demand. Naturalists are generally also involved in taking photos to produce a photo journal. As a Zodiac driver, naturalists should be experienced skippers and adept at risk assessment.
Each team rosters the following NAT/ZD roles: birder, botanist, marine specialist, historian, first responder, snorkel guide (for tropics), archaeologist (where needed).
