Join us for this wonderful exploration of the Dalmatian Coast as we spend seven nights journeying along Croatia’s spectacular coastline with its intense blue sea and amazingly picturesque islands. This region has much to offer the genuine traveller and our cruise itinerary has been carefully designed to visit some marvellous places which do not cater for the big ships, and we will head to some of the quieter spots and out-of-the-way beaches and islands to enjoy the simple pleasures and discover Croatia the local way.
We begin in the Medieval walled city of Dubrovnik, well deserving of its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site before discovering some of Croatia’s natural beauty in Mljet where we will tour the National Park including its beautiful lakes. We continue to the island of Korcula where our first call will be the Old Town with its wonderful Medieval atmosphere and charming waterfront restaurants that can be enjoyed on our overnight mooring. The following day we will sail to the western end of the island to visit Vela Luka which, although meaning “big harbour” in Croatian, is still a peaceful and relaxing spot to explore. Our next few days will be spent visiting some of the quieter ports in the Dalmatian islands, with plenty of opportunities for swims in secluded bays and pristine beaches. Discover Jelsa on the island of Hvar, surrounded by pine forests and Bol, close to the stunning Zlatni rat beach on the island of Brac before spending some time in tranquil Maslinica with just 208 inhabitants. Our final afternoon will be spent exploring the historic city of Split, with its Diocletian Palace built by the Romans, a fitting end to our voyage.
With just 36 guests on board we will be able to explore parts of the coast that most cruise ship passengers in the region rarely get to visit and, taking advantage of our central moorings, you will be able to sample the wonderful gastronomy and experience the enchanting towns and harbours in their evening splendour. In addition to our included guided excursions, we have allowed ample time at leisure and there will also be opportunities to swim from the ship as we call into secluded bays and hidden coves.
Queen Eleganza
For our cruises along the Adriatic coast, we are delighted to have chartered the Queen Eleganza which was launched in April 2018. Beautifully crafted by Croatian hands, this is one of the finest Croatian flagged vessels of her kind and, with a maximum of just 36 guests, there is the added benefit of a relaxed and informal atmosphere on board. The team of friendly Croatian crew members all speak English and their excellent service and hospitality will do much to add to your enjoyment. Meals served on board have a home-cooked feel and feature wholesome, fresh and tasty Mediterranean cuisine and, when dining ashore independently, your knowledgeable Cruise Director will recommend popular local restaurants. This is the perfect ship to escape the formalities of larger vessels and enjoy the casual nature of small ship cruising along the most beautiful of coastlines.
Itinerary
Day 1 London to Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Fly by scheduled flight. On arrival transfer to the Queen Eleganza. Enjoy a welcome dinner on board this evening as we moor overnight. (D)
Day 2 Dubrovnik & Mljet.
Spend the morning in Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic“. After a short drive to Pile Gate, we will begin our guided walk through the unique Medieval Old Town of Dubrovnik, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. See the major attractions such as the Rector’s Palace, the Romanesque-Gothic Dominican and Franciscan Monasteries and the Sponza Palace. Return to the Queen Eleganza for lunch as we set sail to Mljet where there will be the opportunity to dine ashore this evening as we moor overnight. (B, L)
Day 3 Mljet & Korcula.
Mljet is one of the few Dalmatian islands that was never ruled by Venice and this is apparent in the architecture and the absence of any sizeable historic town. What it lacks in great architecture it more than makes up for in natural beauty and there will be a tour to the National Park including its beautiful lakes. Over lunch we sail to Korcula, the reputed birthplace of the explorer Marco Polo, arriving later this afternoon. On a walking tour enjoy some time to walk along the crooked Medieval streets to the elegant squares which are flanked with palaces of the old nobility. We will moor overnight and you will be able to dine ashore in the Old Town this evening. (B, L)
Day 4 Korcula & Vela Luka.
There will be some free time this morning to further explore the Old Town before we sail along the coast of the island of Korcula to our next port of call, Vela Luka, where we will arrive later this afternoon. Occupying a large bay at the western end of the island, the name Vela Luka means “big harbour” in Croatian. Spend some time strolling the charming harbourside promenade or take an uphill walk to visit the Vela Spila cave, one of the most important prehistoric cave dwellings in Europe, inhabited since the Stone Age. Enjoy dinner on board this evening. (B, L, D)
Day 5 Hvar.
After a morning sailing, we will arrive on the island of Hvar after lunch, mooring in the picturesque town of Jelsa. This small harbour town is surrounded by pine forests and is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll or maybe take a walk to one of the nearby beaches that can be found in the secluded coves that dot the coastline. Dine ashore this evening in one of the many harbourside restaurants and moor overnight. (B, L)
Day 6 Brac & Solta.
Over breakfast sail the short distance to the island of Brac where we will moor in the small town of Bol. Spend some time exploring this attractive old town, or head to one of the nearby beaches for a swim, including Zlatni rat, arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia. Return to the ship for lunch as we sail on to the island of Solta, where we berth in the small village of Maslinica. This tranquil spot, home to just 208 inhabitants, is well off the beaten track and is an idyllic spot for a late afternoon wander or a swim. Enjoy dinner on board as we moor overnight. (B, L, D)
Day 7 Solta & Split.
There will be the opportunity for another swim this morning before we sail over lunch to our final port of call, Split. Upon arrival take a guided walk through the city which includes the Palace of Diocletian which was built by the emperor in 295-305 AD as his retirement villa. Much of this large building is well preserved and the palace contains Split’s Old Town within its walls, making it the only Roman palace that has been continuously inhabited since Roman times. This evening enjoy our farewell dinner on board. (B, L, D)
Day 8 Split to London.
Disembark this morning and transfer to the airport for our scheduled flight to London. (B)
