Here is a wonderful expedition aboard a vessel on which you can be assured of excellent service, food and sumptuous surroundings. For this unique voyage we are delighted to be working with our associates at Hapag-Lloyd Cruises who have made some cabins available to us aboard their five-star vessel, the Hanseatic Inspiration. This unusual itinerary combines the great towering cliffs, walls of glacial ice, winding fjords, vast ice sheets and flowing glaciers of western and southern Greenland with highlights along the Canadian east coast with its diverse wildlife, history and rich Inuit culture.
We begin our journey in coastal Greenland, one of the last great wilderness areas where man has made little difference to the landscape and tourists are still a rarity. It is a marvel to behold; for most visitors their first encounter with Greenland is a humbling experience as they witness nature in the raw and look out across a magnificent Arctic world. Imposing icebergs drifting through Disko Bay will leave you speechless, as will the contrasts of flourishing tundra and mighty mountain ranges. The expedition continues across the Labrador Sea to Canada where we call into Newfoundland where from the historic capital of St John’s there will be options to explore this wild and rugged isle including a coastal hike on the East Coast Trail. Next you can enjoy the French way of life in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, a remnant of the former colony of New France before arriving into green Canada where a highlight for many will be the circumnavigation of Cape Breton Island. Here there will be the opportunity to explore the Cape Breton Highlands National Park or the beautiful Bras d’Or Lake before sailing to Halifax.
This expedition promises to be a unique experience featuring coastlines steeped in history set against stunning landscapes of natural wonders. Good use will be made of the fleet of Zodiacs to navigate small bays and land in otherwise inaccessible places whilst hopefully encountering fascinating wildlife including eagles and whales. There will be a range of optional excursions on offer as well as ample time to relax on board while cruising when you can pass the time on deck looking for wildlife, attend the series of lectures by members of the expedition team or simply enjoy the onboard facilities. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience spectacular natural scenery in a world far away from the stresses of modern life.

Day 2 Germany to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland.

Days 3 to 7 Western coast of Greenland (Sisimiut, Ilulissat, Disko Bay, Qeqertarsuaq, Fjords of Greenland).
Gleaming ice, deep fjords and majestic glaciers await as we explore Greenland’s west coast. We will first visit Sisimiut, capital of the Qeqqata municipality. Follow in the footsteps of the Saqqaq culture and visit the old town which resembles a museum village. From Ilulissat, a hike with the onboard experts will take you to the famous Illusiat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where glistening ice formations gather. This will set the tone for an even more moving scene in Disko Bay where glittering sculptures drift slowly through the water. You will be able to witness these wonders from on board the Hanseatic Inspiration and during a Zodiac excursion. Our exploration next takes us to Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island where the octagonal church, popularly called ‘Vor Herres Blaekhus’ (Our Lord’s Ink Well), and the Qeqertarsuaq Museum provide insights into the history of this former whaling centre. We then continue south where further wonders await in the fjords of Greenland. Here too, you will be able to witness the impressive views of the vast landscape from the ship’s Zodiacs.
Days 8 & 9 Southern Coast of Greenland (Qassiarsuk & Unartoq).
Qassiarsuk has an interesting history as this is where Erik the Red founded Greenland’s first Viking settlement in 985. In Unartoq, you can round off your Greenland experience by bathing in the hot springs as you watch the icebergs drift by.
Days 10 & 11 At Sea.
Enjoy two leisurely days at sea. Join some of the lectures and enjoy the facilities on board.
Day 12 St John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.
Newfoundland is an open book of eventful history, ranging from the indigenous people and the Vikings to European explorers. Newfoundland’s capital, St John’s, is not far from Cape Spear, the country’s most easterly point and home to one of North America’s oldest lighthouses. The city is known for its colourful terraced houses and rich history as well as a unique culture characterised by its Irish, English and Indigenous heritage. One of Newfoundland’s most famous landmarks is Signal Hill, a designated National Historic Site located on the north side of St John’s which offers spectacular views of the harbour. Several optional excursions will be available today, including a scenic hike along the East Coast Trail where the breathtaking coastal landscape can be discovered. The hiking trail descends around 250 metres to the sea offering pure wilderness.
Day 13 Saint Pierre and Miquelon, France.
The self-governing French overseas territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is an archipelago of eight islands off the coast of Newfoundland and is a vestige of the once-vast territory of New France. With its history of smuggling, particularly during Prohibition in the USA, and its long fishing tradition, you will gain a fascinating insight into a piece of French culture in North America. Today, Saint Pierre and Miquelon is best known for its picturesque coastal villages and breathtaking scenery.
Days 14 to 16 Cape Breton Island, Canada.
This jewel in the Nova Scotia region of Canada awaits you with its abundance of natural beauty. A choice of optional excursions will be available during our visit. Explore the Cape Breton Highlands National Park with its 950 square kilometres of rugged wilderness which make it one of Nova Scotia’s most enchanting places, or the picturesque Bras d’Or Lake. With stops in the towns of Louisbourg and Baddeck, you will circumnavigate the island and our visit will conclude with a trip through the Strait of Canso, the channel of water between Cape Breton Island and mainland of Nova Scotia. As we make this passage, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding landscape from the main open deck areas of the Hanseatic Inspiration.
Day 17 Halifax to London.
Disembark this morning and transfer to the airport for our indirect return flight to London.
Day 18 London.
