Edinburgh International Book Festival Online

The Book Festival welcomes around 900 authors from over 60 countries each year including novelists, poets, scientists, philosophers, sportsmen, illustrators, comic creators, historians, musicians, biographers, environmentalists, economists, Nobel and Booker prize-winners and many more besides. Each year it is set in a specially created tented village in the heart of Edinburgh bringing readers and writers together for inspiration, entertainment and discussion.

Sadly this year’s Festival, which Noble Caledonia was due to support for the first time in August, was unable to take place live but instead a special edition of the Edinburgh International Book Festival took place online this summer from 15-31 August 2020.

Here's a snapshot of just some of the world’s biggest names at the 2020 festival and unmissable events:

  • Double Booker Prize winner Hilary Mantel discusses the final novel in her Thomas Cromwell trilogy.
  • Bernadine Evaristo, joint winner of the 2019 Booker Prize, joins Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
  • David Mitchell, the mind behind the fantastical Cloud Atlas, shares his latest novel Utopia Avenue.
  • Turkish author Elif Shafak launches her new polemic How to Stay Sane in an Age of Division.
  • Ali Smith brings us Summer, the remarkable conclusion in her Seasonal Quartet.
  • Arundhati Roy returns to the Book Festival with a thought-provoking new collection of essays.
  • Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans considers the future of Europe alongside former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Not to mention must-see appearances from Marian Keyes, Ian Rankin, Derek Owusu, Val McDermid, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Maggie O'Farrell, Richard Holloway, Maryse Condé, Roger Robinson, Matt Haig, Jackie Kay, Colum McCann, Philippe Sands, Stuart Douglas, and many, many more.
