
Professor Norman Hammond
Professor Norman Hammond is Archaeology Correspondent of The Times, a Senior Fellow at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at Cambridge University, and Research Associate at the Peabody Museum, Harvard University. Educated at Cambridge, he has taught at universities in the UK, USA and New Zealand and lectured widely in Europe, Australasia, and the Americas. He has directed excavations and surveys in the Maya Area of Central America, in Ecuador, Afghanistan, and North Africa. His books include Ancient Maya Civilization, with many foreign editions, and papers have appeared in journals as diverse as the Burlington Magazine and Antiquity, Nature, and Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and a Fellow of the British Academy, and co-editor of the forthcoming revised Archaeology of Afghanistan (2019).
