Prof Clare Jackson
Prof. Clare Jackson is Honorary Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Cambridge and Walter Grant Scott Fellow of Trinity Hall. A historian with research interests in the rich and complex history of seventeenth-century Britain, she has presented a number of highly successful programmes on the Stuart dynasty for the BBC and maintains a distinguished outward-facing profile as a historian, author and broadcaster.
Her book Devil-Land: England under Siege, 1588-1688 (Penguin, 2021) won the 2022 Wolfson History Prize which is the UK's most prestigious and valuable award for historical writing. Her most recent book, The Mirror of Great Britain: A Life of James VI & I (Penguin, 2025) is currently shortlisted for the 2026 Elizabeth Longford Prize in Historical Biography. She was Senior Tutor of Trinity Hall for a decade (2013-23) and is currently President of the Friends of the National Archives at Kew.
