Christian Eckmann
Christian Eckmann is a senior researcher at the Leibniz-Zentrum für Archäologie in Mainz, Germany. He served as head of the Conservation Department, as well as acting deputy director general, until 2023. His research focuses on the study of technological processes involved in the manufacture of archaeological metal artifacts, a field in which he has collaborated extensively through various national and international collaborations, including projects in China, Jordan, and Egypt.
Notable examples of his work include studies of the oldest surviving live-size metal sculpture in Egypt, numerous objects from Tutankhamun’s tomb and the conservation and scientific analysis of bronze birds from the tomb complex of the first Chinese emperor. In 2017, he was elected a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute.
