Adrian Finnerty

A versatile musician and educator, Adrian Finnerty is a highly qualified and experienced teacher, lecturer, composer, conductor, pianist, organist and music historian. As a Guest Speaker, Adrian explores composers, musicians and musical works related to your itinerary. His lectures are delivered in an interesting and engaging manner, and provide a very enjoyable insight into the music and culture of the area.

Adrian’s musical interests include: the History of Western Music, European Music and Culture, Nationalism in Music, Scandinavian and Russian Music, 20th Century Music, Music by Scottish Composers, Music in Britain, Jazz and Music Education, as well as Piano, Organ and Choral Music. Adrian’s academic qualifications include; BA(Hons) in Music and the Arts and MA in Education from the Open University; MMus in Composition, Jazz and 20th Century Music from the University of Edinburgh; MSc in Practitioner Research from the University of Strathclyde; Diploma in the Teaching of Music from St. Andrew's College of Education, Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in piano teaching, and the Associate Diploma of the London College of Music in piano performing.

As a former head of creative arts in a school in Scotland, Adrian has a wide experience of teaching all aspects of Music. He has also delivered a variety of staff development activities, workshops and in-service courses for teachers and postgraduate students, as well as contributing articles and reviews to the Musical Times, the British Journal of Music Education, Music Journal, and local newspapers.
