Heidi Ahvenainen
Heidi originally hails from Finland but has spent almost two decades working and travelling around the world. One of her first jobs was guiding snowmobile and reindeer safaris in Finnish Lapland and she has since worked in various roles in the travel sector from guiding to marketing and project management. Heidi moved to Scotland in 2013 and lost her heart to the Scottish Highlands and islands. In 2018 she had the opportunity to go and live in one of the most remote places on the planet. She worked at Port Lockroy, a historic British base in Antarctica, as base leader for the Antarctic summer season and liked it so much that she went back the following year. Her time on the island introduced her to the wonderful world of expedition cruising and she has worked as an expedition guide on the ships since 2019. During the pandemic you could find her north of the Arctic Circle from old growth forests working on a project on Finland’s newest national park in eastern Lapland. She is the happiest when in nature, close to the water.
