Rebuilding and Empowering Remote Schools in the Philippines
Two projects in collaboration with OSM-AD Philippines
Through two targeted education initiatives in the Philippines, the NCCT is helping improve learning opportunities for children in remote and climate-vulnerable communities.
From equipping isolated schools with essential educational resources to supporting the repair of classrooms damaged by severe weather, these projects are designed to strengthen both learning environments and long-term community resilience.
Equipping a Remote School with Resources to Improve Learning Opportunities
In some of the Philippines’ more remote regions, children continue to face significant challenges in literacy and reading comprehension due to geographic isolation and limited access to educational development.
Through the Centre for Learning Projects, isolated schools are provided with carefully selected resources designed to enhance the educational experience and help bring learning opportunities closer to those available in more developed schools.
These include a children’s library package, basic workshop equipment, a solar energy set, a school vegetable garden set, and sports equipment suited to local play and activity.

For our 2026 donation, NCCT and OSM selected Caghilot Elementary School, located in the Municipality of Silvino Lubos in Northern Samar Province.

A total of $3,700 has been donated, and the equipment will be monitored by OSM-ADF over the next two years to help ensure meaningful and lasting benefit for the school community.
“Access to learning resources can transform not only the classroom experience, but the long-term prospects of an entire community.”
Helping Repair an Island School After Super Typhoon Uwan
In November 2025, Super Typhoon Uwan swept through the Philippines, affecting thousands of lives, homes and livelihoods across the country.
In response, we worked with the Sky fleet crewing agency to understand where support was most urgently needed and how best to direct it to communities with the least access to assistance.
Outlying island communities in Garchitorena, Camarines Sur Province were among the hardest hit and among the least assisted due to their remote location.

NCCT moved quickly to commit funds towards the repair of Tamiawon Elementary School, while Salén Ship Management agreed to increase the available support further.
Around 160 children are expected to benefit, with the repaired classrooms being rebuilt to a more disaster-resilient standard.

A total of $6,650 has been donated, and the works are expected to take approximately two months to complete.
“In remote island communities, rebuilding a classroom can mean restoring stability, continuity and hope.”
Enduring Impact
Together, these two projects reflect NCCT’s commitment to supporting communities in practical, locally relevant and lasting ways — helping create safer, better-equipped spaces for children to learn, grow and thrive.
