The Impact on Education

The floods have severely disrupted education across some of Nepal’s hardest-hit communities, damaging or destroying schools and leaving thousands of children without safe places to learn.

Restoring Safe and Resilient Education

In response to the disaster, the Human Practice Foundation has launched an emergency recovery project, “Restoring Safe and Resilient Education”, to rehabilitate flood-affected schools in the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts.

The aim is to restore safe learning environments for approximately 5,000 children, ensuring that education can resume as quickly as possible while creating stronger and more resilient schools for the future.

In the immediate term, the project will provide temporary learning spaces and essential school materials, allowing children to return to education while longer-term reconstruction takes place.

Building Back Better

Beyond the immediate emergency response, HPF will rebuild and rehabilitate schools to make them safer and more resilient against future natural disasters.

The project follows a “Build Back Better” approach, ensuring that reconstruction does more than simply replace what was lost. Schools will be strengthened to provide safer environments for children, teachers and surrounding communities.

How NCCT’s Support Will Help

NCCT’s £12,000 contribution will support the project’s phased recovery efforts — from clearing debris and establishing temporary learning centres to rehabilitating classrooms, improving WASH facilities and delivering disaster-resilience training for teachers and pupils alike.

By supporting this work, the Trust is helping to ensure that children in some of Nepal’s hardest-hit communities can return to safe, quality education, while helping schools become better protected against future floods and landslides.
