Light for Life in association with Unity of the Unbreakable
Since spring 2025, the Noble Caledonia Charitable Trust has been partnering with Swedish independent volunteer Ulrica Schillström and the Ukrainian aid organisation Unity of the Unbreakable in the joint initiative LIGHT for LIFE – a project that quite literally brings light to the darkest places. The goal is to provide generators to hospitals, schools, and vulnerable civilians in war-affected regions of Ukraine – a life-saving intervention when power infrastructure is deliberately targeted. In places where doctors are forced to operate without light, and children try to learn in schools without power, each generator becomes a source of hope, safety, and human dignity. So far, 40 power stations have been delivered to medical institutions and communities in Sumy, Nikolaiv, Kramatorsk, Kherson, Gluhiv, Pervomaisk, and Partizanske – with more on the way.
The connection between the NCCT and Unity of the Unbreakable began through Ulrica Schillström, an independent volunteer based in Sweden who has been deeply engaged in supporting Ukraine since the full-scale invasion in 2022. Her efforts began with organising emergency housing for refugees arriving in Sweden. Soon, her initiative evolved into a self-managed logistics network for transporting humanitarian aid directly to Ukraine, utilizing business contacts in Poland to facilitate distribution.
As the war progressed, the focus of the support shifted to critical energy needs – especially generators, which quickly proved vital to saving lives. Through close collaboration with Mykhailo Mokhun, a former military engineer coordinating volunteer efforts from Poland, and the Ukrainian organisation Unity of the Unbreakable, founded by Oksana Dmytrivna in Lviv, the support structure became streamlined, effective, and highly cost-efficient.
Together, these efforts have formed a well-coordinated support chain with a strong local presence and minimal overhead, where every delivery has a meaningful impact.
Looking ahead – a shared vision
The collaboration between the NCCT and Ulrica Schillström has now been recognised with a nomination for a humanitarian award from the Swedish government – a meaningful acknowledgment of a joint effort that combines creativity, dedication, and forward thinking. Most importantly, it strengthens the shared ambition to further develop LIGHT for LIFE into a sustainable platform for providing energy support in crises and conflict zones.
Ulrica is also in the early stages of founding a humanitarian foundation – EnerAid – For Good Energy – with the mission to deliver not only emergency power and food aid, but also psychosocial support and recovery tools for those affected by war and disaster. The vision is a future-facing organisation that brings "good energy" in every sense: power, nourishment, resilience, and human connection.
Together, NCCT, Ulrica Schillström, and Unity of the Unbreakable demonstrate what becomes possible when grassroots engagement meets professional coordination.
