Disembark in the historic city of Malaga where a morning tour will take us to the 14th century Castillo de Gibralfaro, built on a hill overlooking the city and once considered the most impregnable fortress in Iberia. Continue to La Merced Square where we see the birthplace of Pablo Picasso before we visit the impressive 16th century cathedral which was built on the remains of a mosque. After lunch we will check into our hotel for a two night stay. (B, L)Day 2 Malaga. Today is free to explore at your own pace. Maybe head to the market, visit the botanical gardens or, for the art lovers, visit the Picasso Museum. We will meet this evening for dinner in the hotel. (B, D)Day 3 Malaga to London or Manchester. Check out this morning and transfer to the airport for our scheduled flight to London or Manchester. Our visit will end with a tasting before we return to the ship.Day 8 Setubal & Evora. Moor today in the the picturesque port of Setubal where we have a choice of excursions including a full day tour to visit the Alentejo region. We will drive to Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where a walking tour will explore the sights and Medieval history of this enchanting city. Evora is one of the oldest towns in the Alentejo region and we will see the well preserved Roman Temple, St Francisco Church and the Chapel of Bones before exploring the charming squares. Alentejo is a highly respected wine region traditionally producing red wines from the Tempranillo and Trincadeira grapes. We will enjoy lunch in a vineyard including a tasting before we return to the MS Hebridean Sky. Alternatively, join a birdwatching boat excursion to the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve, one of the best natural areas in Portugal, from where you can observe colonies of flamingos, spoonbills, herons, cormorants and many other species. After lunch on board enjoy an afternoon at leisure. Be on deck as we sail in the early evening into Setubal Bay where we hope to spot some of the resident bottlenose dolphins. Day 9 Huelva, Spain. After a morning at sea we arrive in the Andalucian port of Huelva, on the Costa de la Luz, from where Christopher Columbus set sail for what turned out to be the New World in 1492. Learn more about this historic voyage at the Muelle de las Carabelas Museum where we find replicas of the ships. Also visit the 14th century La Rabida Monastery which was declared a national monument in 1856 and is where Columbus stayed whilst preparing for his voyage. Alternatively, visit Donana National Park, one of the most important wetlands in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located on the banks of the Rio Guadalquivir the park is a vast area of coastal beaches, sand dunes, forest and freshwater marshes and home to over 200 species of birds as well as mammals including the red deer. We will use 4x4 vehicles to access the park and enjoy a series of nature walks on the lookout for wildlife. Day 10 Tangier, Morocco. This morning we arrive in North Africa at the port of Tangier. A short drive will bring us to the Donabo Gardens, located on the coast with wonderful sea views. Divided into ten sections we can explore the Moroccan garden that celebrates the tradition of tea, the mints maze where multiple varieties blend their fragrances along the alleys, a rose garden thriving in the cool shade and the pollinators garden purposely designed to attract bees. Later we can explore the city where on a walking tour we will visit the Medina, enjoy the views from the Kasbah situated at the highest point of Tangier, and wander through the Grand Souk. Day 11 Malaga, Spain to London or Manchester. Disembark this morning and transfer to the airport for our scheduled flight to London or Manchester.
