Tuscany is renowned for its rolling hills and beautiful countryside, so much so that the coastal region is often overlooked making it one of Italy%u2019s best kept secrets. The town of Viareggio is perfectly located to take advantage of the golden beaches whilst being able to appreciate the Art Deco architecture of the town in addition to the nearby Renaissance wonders of the city of Lucca, and the Medieval splendours of Pisa which we will discover during our guided tours.This region of Italy is synonymous with the composer Puccini who was born in Lucca and lived much of his life in a villa in nearby Torre del Lago. Since 1930, Puccini%u2019s music has been celebrated at the annual Puccini Festival, a prestigious event held in the open-air Grand Theatre, and for our visit we have secured tickets for a performance of Madame Butterfly. During our tour, we will visit the Puccini Museum located in the house where the composer was born in Lucca and also see the house where he lived for almost thirty years on the shores of the beautiful Lake Massaciuccoli. We have chosen the Grand Hotel Royal as our base for our stay, an iconic landmark and exceptional Art Nouveau building which is located on Viareggio%u2019s lovely seafront promenade which is particularly atmospheric in the evenings.
