+44 (0)20-7752 0000Ludwigsburg PalaceDay 5 Rhine River Cruising & Heidelberg. After a morning cruising on the Rhine River we will join the Neckar River at Mannheim and in the early afternoon we arrive in Heidelberg. This most picturesque and romantic of cities is home to Germany%u2019s oldest university dating back to 1386. An afternoon tour will include the dramatically sited castle, the old town with its famous palace and the city gates. We will moor overnight for anyone wishing to take an after dinner stroll. Day 6 Neckar River Cruising & Bad Wimpfen. Spend the morning cruising down the Neckar River passing idyllic villages and majestic castles such as Neckergemund, Neckarsteinach and Hirschhorn on our way to Bad Wimpfen. As we approach, we will see the dramatic skyline of the town which is dominated by the largest Hohenstaufen Imperial palace north of the Alps and its imperious Medieval towers. Although only small, the town is fascinating with a wonderful array of monuments that testify to its richly varied history, dating back to pre-historic times. During our afternoon walking tour we will experience the unique atmosphere of the Medieval town centre with its half-timbered houses in Alemannic and Franconian architectural styles.Day 7 Lauffen & Ludwigsburg Palace. Overnight we sail to Lauffen, the base for our morning visit to Ludwigsburg Palace. The residential palace was built at the beginning of the 18th century under Duke Ludwig Eberhard and is one of the largest preserved German Baroque palaces. This %u201cSwabian Versailles%u201d, formerly the residence of the Wurttemberg dukes and kings, is picturesquely situated in the middle of the Blooming Baroque gardens. Return to the ship for lunch and a leisurely final afternoon cruising on the Neckar River before we arrive in Stuttgart and moor overnight.Day 8 Frankfurt to London. Lying near the vine covered foothills of the southern Vosges, the town boasts picturesque 16th and 17th century burghers%u2019 houses, art treasures, delicious cuisine and superb wines.Pre-cruise Alsace Extension9th to 12th September 2026; 1st to 4th September & 29th September to 2nd October 2027 Day 1 London to Colmar, France. Fly by scheduled flight to Basle. On arrival transfer to our hotel in Colmar for a three night stay. After settling into your room meet for dinner tonight. (D)Day 2 Colmar. After breakfast join a walking tour of Colmar, including a visit to the Unterlinden Museum which is home to the Isenheim Altarpiece, an altarpiece sculpted and painted by Niclaus of Haguenau and Matthias Grunewald. The remainder of your day will be at leisure to sightsee independently. (B)Day 3 Colmar & Alsace Wine Region. This morning is free to relax. In the afternoon we will travel into the surrounding Alsace wine growing region. With vastly contrasting terrain, from plains to slopes and mountains, it boasts 37 wine-growing communities and 30 Grands Crus. We will visit one of the vineyards to learn more about the wine production before enjoying a tasting. Return to Colmar and meet for dinner this evening. (B, D)Day 4 Colmar & Strasbourg to Saarbrucken, Germany. Check out this morning and drive to Strasbourg where on a walking tour will see the Ponts Couverts, a series of wooden bridges dating back to the 13th century, the Place Gutenberg and the Cathedral of Notre Dame, the tallest Medieval building in Europe. After lunch we transfer to Saarbrucken to embark the MS Thurgau Saxonia.
