Swiss Ruby

Launched in Germany in 2002 and refurbished in the winter of 2012, the Swiss Ruby is an elegant river vessel catering for just 88 passengers in outside facing, spacious cabins. Public areas are ample and elegantly decorated with panoramic windows so you can enjoy the view wherever you are. With its moderate draught, the vessel is ideally suited to navigate rivers and canals in virtually the whole of Europe.

    There are 44 comfortable outside-facing cabins measuring approximately 11.4 sq metres.  Cabins on the Emerald deck have twin beds that can also be made up as a double and a non-opening picture window. Cabins on the Ruby deck have fixed double beds and a French balcony. All cabins feature an ensuite bathroom with shower, air conditioning, television, telephone, hairdryer, mini-bar and a safe.

    The MS Swiss Ruby is both elegantly furnished and spacious throughout the public areas. The lounge on the Ruby deck is a relaxing environment to watch the passing scenery, browse the library or enjoy a drink from the bar. It is here that our resident pianist will delight us after a day of exploration.

    The restaurant seats all passengers in one sitting and is located on the Emerald deck. There is also a spacious Sun deck with comfortable deck furniture where you can appreciate your passing scenery in good weather. There is a chair lift in operation from the entrance area located on the Upper deck to the restaurant and the Sun deck.

    The elegantly appointed restaurant seats all passengers for meals at table of four and six. Cuisine is international and of a superior quality, with breakfast being served buffet offering both continental and cooked options. Lunch offers a buffet option with cold and hot meals, or alternatively there is a three course table-service menu featuring a soup option, main course and dessert. Dinner is a four course affair with meat, fish and vegetarian options.

    The friendly onboard staff of 22, will provide you with excellent service and do much to contribute to your enjoyment throughout your journey. The atmosphere on board is relaxed and informal and the dress code is casual, with the emphasis on comfort for exploration during the day and smart/casual clothing is ideal for the evenings. You may wish to bring something a little dressier for the Welcome and Farewell dinners

    The MS Swiss Ruby abides to the strict safety regulations of the German underwriter Lloyd and the Dutch shipping authority. The ship is fully geared with the relevant technical equipment with river pilot, radar, echo depth sounder and the most up-to-date navigational instruments to guarantee a safe journey.

    The MS Swiss Ruby is able to accommodate passengers with limited mobility in the Upper deck cabins. Although there is no elevator onboard there is a chair lift providing access from the Upper deck entrance area to the restaurant. Please note that access to and from the ship is often by means of a gangway.

    Smoking is strictly prohibited except for in the designated outside areas on the Sun deck.

    The atmosphere onboard is relaxed and informal and the friendly onboard staff of 23, will provide you with excellent service and do much to contribute to your enjoyment throughout your journey.

    We hope this information booklet answers any questions you may have pertaining to the vessel and wish you a pleasant voyage.


    All cabins have individually controlled heating and air-conditioning.


    An alarm will be sounded in the event of an emergency. Please follow the instructions provided onboard for what to do in the event of an emergency.


    Your times for embarkation and disembarkation will be provided by your Cruise Director.


    No animals are allowed aboard the vessel.


    During your time onboard, various announcements will be made by the ship’s crew and our Cruise Director. Please listen out for these announcements as they will be of importance or interest.


    Your bill for drinks consumed throughout your journey should be settled at the end of your journey.


    No salon is available onboard.


    No bicycles are available onboard.

    CABIN DIMENSIONS • Cabins on the Emerald Deck measure approximately 11.4 square metres and feature non-opening windows that measure 76 x 94 cm. • Cabins on the Ruby Deck measure approximately 11.4 square metres and have sliding windows that measure 190 x 174 cm.


    Toiletries are provided within your cabin’s bathroom and bathrobes can be brought to your cabin on request. Towels are available within your cabin’s bathroom and are also on request should you require them on the Sun Deck. A hairdryer is available for you to use in your cabin. There is also a television, safe and telephone in the cabin. 


    A Noble Caledonia Cruise Director will accompany you on your voyage along with a Noble Caledonia Tour Manager.


    The currency onboard is the Euro. The ship accepts Visa, MasterCard, V-Pay and Maestro EC-CARD. An itemised bill in Euros will be presented to each passenger prior to their disembarkation for any items purchased during the cruise.


    Each evening the next day’s programme will be delivered to your cabin.


    Comfortable and practical attire is recommended during the day for excursions and something dressier for the evening. More formal dress is required only for Welcome and Captain’s dinner (black tie is not necessary).


    Electricity onboard is 220v with 2-pin power outlets. We recommend you take an adaptor with you.


    While there is no elevator onboard, a chair lift is available to use and operates between the reception area and restaurant and also between the entrance of the ship and the Sun Deck. Please note the chair lift does not access the lower deck.


    Embarkation is approximately 16.00 hours, unless advised otherwise. The official embarkation time will be advised in your final documentation. The official disembarkation time is between 8:30-09.00 hours, however your Cruise Director will provide detailed information prior to the end of the cruise. This will include departure transfer information.


    Full details of the ship’s emergency and safety procedures will be provided following your embarkation. 


    On your cabin door is a deck plan displaying your closest (and all other) emergency exits. Emergency exits are marked in green and fire extinguishers fitted in all corridors. An alarm button is fitted in your cabin should an emergency arise.


    A number of crew are fully trained and certified to provide First Aid. Further medical assistance can be sought from one of the hospitals along the river in the event of emergency. Please note there is no doctor onboard.


    There is no fitness room onboard the vessel.


    Gratuities have been included in your holiday price, however if you feel that certain individuals deserve special award, you are of course free to remunerate as you please.


    A small gift shop selling various practical and souvenir items is available by reception.

    Your cabin will be cleaned once a day and you will be provided with a ‘turn down’ service at night.


    Each cabin will receive their own cabin key. Before leaving the ship we kindly ask all passengers to swap the cabin key with a shore pass which will be provided to you by the ship’s reception desk. After your return to the ship, please return your shore pass to reception in exchange for your cabin key. 


    A laundry service is provided onboard at additional cost. Ironing of clothes can also be arranged at a supplement.


    A small selection of books and games are available in the ship’s lounge.


    Lost property can be handed to the ship’s reception. Please ensure you have all of your belongings with you before you return home. Should you leave items onboard the ship we are only able to return them to you at your own cost.


    Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are served onboard. Breakfast and afternoon tea are buffet-style, lunch is both served and buffet style and dinner is a served, four course affair. Dietary requests can be catered for (on request). Please provide any such requests in writing to Noble Caledonia at the time of your reservation and please reiterate these requests to the ship’s Hotel Manager upon your embarkation.


    Please ensure you take the appropriate precautions to guard against mosquito bites. NEWSPAPERS Newspapers are not available onboard.


    Despite our meticulous planning efforts, there may be times when changes must be made to the daily program due to circumstances beyond our control such as heavy river traffic or fluctuating water levels. The ship’s Captain and crew along with Noble Caledonia’s staff will do their utmost to find the best and safest solution. Any changes to the day’s schedule will be communicated as soon as possible.


    The vessel operates a signed-chit system whereby no payment is immediately required (the vessel only requiring a signature for your purchase) and, only at the end of the cruise will you be presented with your final itemised bill to settle. 


    The vessel’s gift shop may sell postcards and stamps for you to purchase (subject to availability) and, items can be posted on your behalf by the ship’s crew (although as they are unable to do so at every port of call, this could take longer than if you were to post yourself). Please note that neither the ship nor Noble Caledonia can be held responsible for items of post that are not successfully delivered on your behalf.


    A questionnaire will be provided to all passengers towards the end of their sailing. We would be grateful for you to complete and return this.


    Noble Caledonia has arranged for all passengers to have access to a ‘Quietvox’ audio system for shore excursions. Further details shall be provided to you following your embarkation.


    Reception is staffed throughout the day and between the hours of 10:00pm and 07:00am a night watchman will be on duty.


    Room service is not available, although should you feel unwell and unable to make it to the ship’s restaurant, special arrangements can be made. SAFE All cabins are fitted with a safe and we recommend you place your valuables inside the safe whenever you are away from your room. Please remember to remove all items from your safe prior to you departing the vessel at the end of the cruise.


    Please take careful note of all safety instructions provided to you by the Master and crew of the vessel. Full safety instructions and a safety video are available to you in your cabin.


    Smoking within your cabin or any of the vessel’s public areas is strictly prohibited. Designated smoking areas are provided and can be advised by the ship’s reception upon embarkation. 


    The ship has a Sun Deck which is available for guests to enjoy. There may be times, for example at periods of inclement weather or low bridges, whereby it is necessary to close the Sun Deck. Please listen carefully to the Captain and Crew for instruction. Please also note that the Sun Deck and its steps may become slippery if the weather is cool or dew forms.


    To make an internal call please dial the corresponding cabin number. To make an external call, please contact the reception desk.


    Visitors are not permitted aboard the vessel without the prior consent of the ship’s senior staff. Please provide as much notice as possible to the senior staff so that the necessary arrangements can be made. The ship’s operator reserve the right to deny boarding to any visitors.


    Complimentary water is available during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bottled water can be purchased at an additional cost onboard.


    Wireless internet connection is available onboard at the following prices:- For the entire journey with a maximum of 1GB = €49. For 24 hours with a maximum of 100MB = €15 (counted from first log-in).
