This classical river vessel was built in 1985 and was completely refurbishment over the winter of 2013-2014. She is a comfortable and well run vessel, ideal for exploring the Russian Waterways, During the refurbishment, the vessel was upgraded with special effort made to create maximum comfort in a European style.

    The vessel accommodates 200 passengers. All cabins are outside and arranged over four decks, have a promenade walkway outside the cabin and a large picture window which can be opened. Every cabin has a private bathroom (completely refurbished in 2013-14), individual air conditioning/heating control, a radio and a wardrobe.

    Cabin sizes are as follows: Main/Upper Deck twin 8.5-9 square metres; Junior Suite 20 square metres, Single cabins 7.5 square metres. Noble Caledonia highly recommends booking a Suite to enhance your holiday experience.

  • Your Space

    Outside you will find spacious deck areas with loungers, chairs, and tables. Ship facilities include public areas such as a Reading Room, a Conference Hall and two onboard bars. In addition, there is a souvenir shop, doctor’s office, beauty salon and laundry service.


  • Your Dining

    The delightful dining room offers Continental and Russian cuisine as well as specialties of the surrounding regions. During your voyage there will be a Captain’s Welcome cocktail reception and a gala farewell dinner.

  • Life Onboard

    The staff onboard offer friendly and efficient service and ensure a warm welcome and enjoyable cruise. During your cruise there will be the opportunity to tour the ship’s Bridge, attend Russian language classes and lectures on Russian history and tradition. There is also nightly entertainment.

    We are delighted you have chosen the MS Rakhamaninov for your upcoming cruise along the Volga.

    This classical river vessel was built in 1984 and was completely refurbishment over the winter of 2014. She is a comfortable and well run vessel, ideal for exploring the Russian Waterways. During the refurbishment, the vessel was upgraded with special effort made to create maximum comfort in a European style.

    The friendly and efficient service and onboard entertainment, spacious public areas, choice of bars and its promenade walkways, will make you feel relaxed and comfortable as soon as you embark.

    We hope this information booklet answers any questions you may have pertaining to the vessel and wish you a pleasant voyage. 


    All cabins have individually controlled heating and air-conditioning. We recommend ensuring your windows and doors are shut for optimal performance of the unit.


    An alarm will be sounded in the event of an emergency. Please follow the instructions provided onboard for what to do in the event of an emergency.


    Your times for embarkation and disembarkation shall be provided by your Cruise Director.


    No animals are allowed aboard the vessel.


    During your time onboard, various announcements will be made by the ship’s crew and the Cruise Director. Please listen out for these announcements as they will be of importance or interest.


    Your bill for drinks consumed throughout your journey should be settled at the end of your journey.


    Beds in standard cabins measure 188 x 75 cm and in junior suite cabins 200 x 180 cm. All cabins have windows that measure 1280 x 880mm and junior suite cabins have two windows of this size. Cabin sizes are as follows: • Junior Suite: 20 square metres. • Main/Upper Deck twin: 8.5-9 square metres. • Singles 7.5: square metres.


    Cabins feature TV/radio, wardrobe, safe, dressing table, shelves, small table, mirror, wash basin and shower and toilet. Hairdryers are provided in all suites. All other passengers can borrow a hairdryer from the ship’s reception.


    A local Cruise Director will accompany you on your voyage along with a Noble Caledonia Tour Manager. 


    Euros, Dollars and Rubles are accepted onboard the ship. Credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) are accepted in the ship’s bars and restaurant. Payments for the doctor’s services, Sauna and Laundry must be made in cash. The Gift Shop accepts credit cards if the sum exceeds €100. An itemised bill will be presented to each passenger prior to their disembarkation for any items purchased during the cruise.


    Each evening the next day’s programme will be delivered to your cabin.


    While there is no formal dress code onboard, comfortable and practical attire is recommended during the day for excursions and something dressier for the evening. More formal dress is required only for Welcome and Captain’s dinner (black tie is not necessary).


    Electricity onboard is 220v, with 2-pin power outlets. We recommend you take an adaptor with you.


    There is no elevator onboard.


    Embarkation is approximately 16.00 hours, unless advised otherwise. The official embarkation time will be advised in your final documentation. The official disembarkation time is between 8:30-09.00 hours, however your Cruise Director will provide detailed information prior to the end of the cruise. This will include departure transfer information.


    Full details of the ship’s emergency and safety procedures shall be provided following your embarkation.


    On your cabin door is a deck plan displaying your closest (and all other) emergency exits. Emergency exits are marked in green and fire extinguishers fitted in all corridors.


    A doctor is available onboard the ship in the event of emergency (charges apply). Further medical assistance can be sought from one of the hospitals along the river in the event of emergency. Should you require emergency assistance, please call the ship’s reception.


    There is no fitness room available onboard the vessel.


    Gratuities have been included in your holiday price, however if you feel that certain individuals deserve special award, you are of course free to remunerate as you please.


    A small gift shop selling various practical and souvenir items is available. HAIR DRESSER A hair salon is provided onboard. Please make an appointment with the ship’s reception should you wish to use this facility.


    None onboard.


    Your cabin will be cleaned once a day and you will be provided with a ‘turn down’ service at night.


    Each cabin will receive their own cabin key. Before leaving the ship we kindly ask all passengers to swap the cabin key with a shore pass which will be provided to you by the ship’s reception desk. After your return to the ship please return your shore pass to reception in exchange for your cabin key.


    A laundry service is provided onboard at additional cost. Ironing of clothes can also be arranged at a supplement. No dry cleaning is available onboard.


    A small library is available onboard.


    Lost property can be handed in to the ship’s reception. Please ensure you have all of your belongings with you before you return home. Should you leave items onboard the ship we are only able to return them to you at your own cost.


    A massage parlour is available for passenger use onboard. Please contact reception for current prices and to arrange an appointment.


    Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided onboard. Breakfast is buffet-style and lunches and dinners are served. Dietary requests can be catered for (on request). Please provide any such requests in writing to Noble Caledonia at the time of your reservation and please reiterate these requests to the ship’s Hotel Manager upon your embarkation.


    Please ensure you take the appropriate precautions to guard against mosquito bites.


    Despite our meticulous planning efforts, there may be times when changes must be made to the daily program due to circumstances beyond our control such as heavy river traffic or fluctuating water levels. The ship’s Captain and crew along with Noble Caledonia staff will do their utmost to find the best and safest solution. Any changes to the day’s schedule will be communicated as soon as possible. During your cruise you will have the opportunity to purchase optional shore excursions. A full list and prices shall be made available during your sailing.

    Please note that if you settle your ship account by credit card, the amount in Euros will be converted to Russian Rubles. The debited amount shown on your bank/building society statement in British Pounds will be based on the relevant exchange rates on the day of the transaction. You may need to make your bank/building society aware that your card payment will be authorised ‘in Russia’ so that payment is not declined, and also to ascertain if any additional charges will be applied. To avoid additional card charges, we would recommend settling your bill by cash in Euros.


    The vessel’s gift shop may sell postcards and stamps for you to purchase (subject to availability) and, items can be posted on your behalf by the ship’s crew (although as they are unable to do so at every port of call, this could take longer than if you were to post yourself). Please note that neither the ship nor Noble Caledonia can be held responsible for items of post that are not successfully delivered on your behalf.


    A questionnaire will be provided to all passengers towards the end of their sailing. We would be grateful for you to complete and return this.


    Reception is manned from 07:00 to 21:00 daily and up to midnight in Moscow and St Petersburg. You will be able to contact the crew outside of these hours in the event of emergency.


    Room service is not available.


    All cabins are fitted with a safe and we recommend you place your valuables inside the safe whenever you are away from your room. Please remember to remove all items from your safe prior to you departing the vessel at the end of the cruise.


    Please take careful note of all safety instructions provided to you by the Master and crew of the vessel.


    A sauna is available for use onboard the vessel. Please contact the ship’s reception to make an appointment.


    Smoking within your cabin or any of the vessel’s public areas is strictly prohibited. Designated smoking areas are provided and can be advised by the ship’s reception upon embarkation.


    The ship has a Sun Deck which is available for guests to enjoy. There may be times, for example at periods of inclement weather or low bridges, whereby it is necessary to close the Sun Deck. Please listen carefully to the Captain and Crew for instruction. Please also note that the Sun Deck and its steps may become slippery if the weather is cool or dew forms.


    To make an internal call please dial the corresponding cabin number. To make an external call, please contact the reception desk.


    Visitors are not permitted aboard the vessel, however with the prior consent of the ship’s reception, this can sometimes be possible. Please provide as much notice as possible to the senior staff so that the necessary arrangements can be made. The ship’s operators reserve the right to deny boarding to any visitors.


    Complimentary water is available during breakfast, lunch and dinners. Bottled water can be purchased at an additional cost onboard.


    Wireless internet connection is available, however please note that this can be variable during the journey and there may be periods when it is not available at all. Wi-Fi reception is generally better in Moscow and St Petersburg.
