We are delighted to have chartered the charming RV Paukan for this exploration of Myanmar. Built in 2007, the RV Paukan is designed to resemble an old fashioned wooden river cruiser but has all the modern amenities and safety features. The vessel is one of the smallest on the river and is beautifully furnished with a unique combination of modern and traditional motifs. She accommodates a maximum of just 55 passengers with a crew of 30 providing a warm and friendly atmosphere and excellent service. Whilst on board you can dine in the elegant restaurant, enjoy a drink in the vessel’s outside bar or simply relax and watch the world go by from the Sun Deck. For those in need of a little pampering, enjoy a visit to the ship’s massage room for a relaxing Burmese-style massage.

    All cabins feature an en-suite bathroom, ample closet space, individual climate control, safe, hairdryer, blankets, slippers and a choice of either a double or twin bed. Stateroom cabins on the Main and Upper Deck all measure between 15 and 21 square metres and many feature a private balcony overlooking the river. Suites measure 40 square metres and include extra space and prime views over the upper Irrawaddy.

    Spread over four decks, the vessel’s public spaces include an elegant dining room which accommodates all guests in one sitting, an indoor lounge and an outside bar. There are plenty of areas for relaxation and socialising with your fellow travellers. The vessel also has its own gift shop and massage room and the spacious Sun Deck, offering magnificent panoramic views, includes awnings, tables and Bar comfortable deck chairs. 

  • Your Dining

    All meals are taken in the vessel’s single-sitting restaurant located on the Main Deck and there is also a lounge where you can dine al fresco. The experienced chefs will prepare fresh, local ingredients of both Eastern and Western cuisine. Mornings feature a full buffet breakfast, lunches are a selection of buffet and served items and dinners are a waiter service affair including a choice of fresh fish and meats. Complimentary beer and soft drinks are included with lunch and dinner (with wine also at dinner) and tea, coffee and mineral water are available at all times in the dining room and Sun Deck.

    For our exploration of the Irrawaddy, we have chartered the RV Paukan, the perfect vessel for exploring this fascinating region.

    This charming vessel has just 26 spacious suites and is built to resemble an old fashioned wooden river cruiser but with all the modern amenities and safety features. The atmosphere on board is informal and whether you are enjoying a drink in the outside bar, relaxing with a book on the Sun Deck or indulging in a relaxing Burmese-style massage, the friendly onboard staff of 30 will provide you with an excellent service.

    We hope this information booklet answers any questions you may have pertaining to the vessel and wish you a pleasant voyage.


    All cabins have individually controlled heating and air-conditioning. We recommend ensuring your windows and doors are shut for optimal performance of the unit.


    An alarm will be sounded in the event of emergency. Please follow the instructions provided on board for what to do in the event of emergency.


    Your times for embarkation and disembarkation will be provided by the onboard Cruise Director.


    During your time on board, various announcements will be made by the ship’s crew and the Cruise Director. Please listen out for these announcements as they will be of importance or interest. You will be able to hear these announcements on the ship’s Sun Deck, your cabin and public areas.


    Locally produced soft drinks, local beer, coffee, tea and mineral water are served free of charge throughout the cruise. House wine is included with dinner.


    There are no bicycles available on board.


    Suites measure 40 square metres and, with three windows and a French balcony, offer fantastic views of the Irrawaddy. Stateroom cabins on the Main and Upper Deck all measure between 15 and 21 square metres. The Upper Deck double cabins also feature a French balcony with a sliding picture-window and shutters.


    The crew would like all guests to be as comfortable as possible during their voyage. The housekeeping team ensure the highest possible standards of cleanliness and will do their best to make you feel at home. All cabins have a safe, wardrobe, en-suite facilities, individually controlled climate control and amenities include a hairdryer, slippers, L’Occitane toiletries and blankets. The suites also have tea and coffee making facilities.


    The ships professional, English-speaking Cruise Director will be available on board. You will also be accompanied by a Noble Caledonia Tour Manager.


    The currency on board is US dollars. The ship accepts Visa and MasterCard and cash payments. An itemised bill in dollars will be presented to each passenger prior to their disembarkation for any items purchased during the cruise.


    The Daily Programme is printed on board and delivered to your cabin every evening during dinner. It provides details of the following day’s programme, meal times and other activities.


    During the day on board and whilst on excursions we recommend casual and comfortable clothing. For the visits to temples and pagodas, both sexes are required to wear knee and shoulder covering clothes however there is no dress code on board the vessel. When visiting Buddhist sites you are required to walk barefoot therefore we recommend wearing a slip-on or slipper shoes that are easy to take off.


    Electricity onboard is 230v, with Euro-American standard 2-pin power outlets. We recommend you take an adaptor with you.


    There is no lift on board.


    Embarkation and Disembarkation times will be provided by your Cruise Director and Tour Manager.


    Full details of the ship’s emergency and safety procedures will be provided following your embarkation. Please note there is no Doctor on board the vessel.


    On your cabin door is a deck plan displaying your closest (and all other) emergency exits. Emergency exits are marked in green and fire extinguishers fitted in all corridors.


    A number of crew are fully trained and certified to provide First Aid. Further medical assistance can be sought from one of the hospitals along the river in the event of emergency. Should you require emergency assistance, please call the ship’s reception. If you have medications that require cooling, please ask at the ship’s reception to store in one of the ship’s fridges.


    There is no fitness room on board the vessel.


    Gratuities have been included in your holiday price however, if you feel that certain individuals deserve special award, you are of course free to remunerate as you please.


    A small gift shop selling various practical and souvenir items is located in the lounge area.


    There is no hairdresser on board.


    Your cabin will be cleaned once a day and you will be provided with a ‘turn down’ service in the evening.


    Each cabin will receive their own cabin key. Before leaving the ship, we kindly ask all passengers to swap their cabin key with a shore pass which will be provided to you by the ship’s reception. Upon returning to the ship, please exchange your shore pass at reception for your cabin key.


    A laundry service is provided on board at additional cost.


    A small selection of books are available for use on board. Please return all books to the library before the end of the cruise.


    Lost property should be handed in to the ship’s reception. Please ensure you have all of your belongings with you before you return home. Should you leave items on board the ship we are only able to return them to you at your own cost.


    A massage parlour is available for passenger use on board. Please contact reception for current prices and to arrange an appointment. There are two massage rooms on the Lower Deck offering traditional Myanmar massage.


    Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served on board. Breakfast is buffet-style, lunch is both served and buffet-style and dinner is table served. There is a choice of European and Asian cuisine including some local Myanmar dishes. Dietary requests can be catered for (on request). Please provide any such requests in writing to Noble Caledonia at the time of your reservation and please reiterate these requests to the Hotel Manager upon your embarkation.


    Please ensure you take the appropriate precautions to guard against mosquito bites particularly in the early morning and evening hours. Switching off lights when exiting your suite, and ensuring that glass or screen doors or windows are closed at all times, will minimize the number of insects entering your room.


    Despite our meticulous planning efforts, there may be times when changes must be made to the daily programme due to circumstances beyond our control such as heavy river traffic or fluctuating water levels. The ship’s Captain and crew will do their utmost to find the best and safest solution. Any changes to the day’s schedule will be communicated as soon as possible.


    The vessel’s gift shop will sell postcards and stamps for you to purchase (subject to availability) and, items can be posted on your behalf by the ship’s crew (although as they are unable to do so at every port of call, this could take longer than if you were to post yourself). Please note that neither the ship nor Noble Caledonia can be held responsible for items of post that are not successfully delivered on your behalf.


    A questionnaire will be provided to all passengers towards the end of the cruise. We would be grateful for you to complete and return this.


    Reception is staffed 24 hours a day.


    Room service is not available although, should you feel unwell and unable to make it to the ship’s restaurant, special arrangements can be made. SAFE All cabins are fitted with a safe and we recommend you place your valuables inside the safe whenever you are away from your room. Please remember to remove all items from your safe prior to you departing the vessel at the end of the cruise.


    Please take careful note of all safety instructions provided to you by the Master and crew of the vessel. Full safety instructions and a safety video are available to you in your cabin.


    Smoking within your cabin or any of the vessel’s public areas is strictly prohibited. Designated smoking areas are provided and will be advised by the ship’s crew upon embarkation.


    The ship has a Sun Deck which is available for guests to enjoy. The Sun Deck has a seating area and guests can also dine al fresco here.


    There is no swimming pool on board.


    Visitors are not permitted aboard the vessel however, with the prior consent of the ship’s reception, this can sometimes be possible. Please provide as much notice as possible to the senior staff so that the necessary arrangements can be made. The ship’s operators reserve the right to deny boarding to any visitors.


    Complimentary water is available during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bottled water can be purchased at additional cost on board. Water in your cabin is not drinkable, we recommend you purchase water from the ship’s bar. During the shore excursions never accept ice in drinks and avoid ice creams, crushed sugar cane, salads and the skins of fruits.


    Internet connection is available through a Wi-Fi system. The connection is limited to certain areas and the Cruise Director will inform you of the coverage.
