Future Hope - India
Emergency Food Supplies
For the Future Hope children and staff, like everyone else in Kolkata, the pandemic has presented huge challenges from the severest lockdown to taking school online with very limited access to technology.
Whilst they continued their core work in providing hope and opportunity to street and slum children through their homes, school, sports and healthcare programmes, they were additionally called on to go deeper into the local communities to ensure the survival of struggling families. They were able to provide food rations, medicines, blankets and in some cases funds to repair homes destroyed by two huge cyclones. What started with 1000 food packets in March 2020 turned into a huge relief effort which by now has benefitted more than 100,000 people.
With the £13,000 covid support fund donation from Noble Caledonia, they were able to pack and distribute 1,444 food packets with enough rations for families of five to last for 14 days.
A message from Debasrita, Head Girl:
I want to say thank you for everything. Everyday I see posts on social media how many people are homeless and not getting 3 proper meals to eat, and each time I think about how lucky we, Future Hope students are. Not only boarders but also our day-scholars are provided with rations and that's a very big thing.
Thank you for your kindness and generous donation -- in a time of darkness Future Hope has been a beacon of hope!
