Explore the Natural World with Noble Caledonia |
This unusual voyage is a true Arctic Odyssey, combining the south western tip of Greenland with the vast coastal wilderness of Canada’s Labrador Coast and the island of Newfoundland. Coastal Greenland is one of the last great wilderness areas where man has made little difference to the landscape. Much of the deeply indented Labrador coastline is also a vast wilderness area, virtually unknown to modern travellers. Isolated communities can only reach each other by sea or air and the MS Caledonian Sky is the ideal way to explore the region. Sail through the mixing ocean currents of the Davis Strait and Labrador Sea, a biologically rich area. We will pass the spectacular Torngat Mountains which meet the ocean in a progression of spectacular steep-walled fjords as they mark the edge of 300 000 sq km of trackless landscape. Finally, we will reach Newfoundland Island and at the far northern tip visit the L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Park. Here in an unspoiled waterside setting, looking pretty much as it did in 1000 A.D. when the Vikings became the first Europeans to land in North America, are the remains of their settlement. Our voyage features coastlines steeped in history with ancient archaeological and National Heritage Sites set against stunning landscapes of natural wonders. |
