As autumn spreads across Scotland, join us aboard the MS Quest for a journey to Caledonia and the Isles. Although perhaps not as defined as the ‘Fall in New England’, it is nevertheless a wonderful time to explore Scotland’s west coast with its subtle colour changes of foliage, heather and moorland. Our journey will take us along the protected coast from Oban up to Loch Torridon, and on the way we will witness some enchanting scenery, rich wildlife and perhaps enjoy the odd dram. One of the many highlights will be our trip along the famous ‘West Highland Line’ where we board the train in Fort William and spend the day enjoying the stunning scenery as we journey to the coast and Mallaig. Other memorable moments will be our explorations aboard the MS Quest to some of Scotland’s most scenic lochs including Torridon, Nevis, Sunart and Carron, the wildlife and beautiful heather landscape of Rum, the stunning gardens of Inverewe rich with autumn colour and the mystical and spiritually uplifting atmosphere of sacred Iona. “I had been to Scotland before but not ‘this’ Scotland. The Highlands and the Hebrides were a revelation, with impressive lochs, breathtaking scenery and the so hospitable highlander people. If I had to choose the best part of the trip, the Jacobite Steam Train, from Fort William to Mallaig was pretty stunning. Stepping on board, you are transported back in time and, if you are lucky enough to be in first class, you are received by a smiling attendant who pours you coffee or tea with scones or even champagne (charge applies), while the scenery just unravels before your eyes. The 84-mile round trip takes you past the deepest loch, the shortest river and most westerly station. It was an amazing journey indeed.” Isabel Neves, Field Staff Coordinator Kinloch Lodge Nestled at the foot of Kinloch Hill on the Isle of Skye, Kinloch Lodge is a special place in a magical setting and we are lucky enough to be able to enjoy a delicious lunch there on day 5.
