Without doubt, our voyage along coastal France and Iberia is one of the world’s great journeys. It offers an insight into the great spirit of its people, their art and music, as well as its splendid architecture and gardens. Along the way we will encounter some of the fine wines of France and Spain and sample some splendid ports in the enchanting city of Oporto.

As we journey along the ‘Edge of the World’, who could fail to be enchanted by the sheer beauty of the region and its captivating history. It offers splendid coastal scenery, fishing villages, vineyards, the timeless beauty of Lisbon and Oporto and the magnificent Moorish and Christian treasures of Seville. Likewise, who could not be moved as they stand in the great cathedral of St James at Santiago de Compostela, pondering on the faith of the millions who have made their pilgrimages over the centuries.

This region has witnessed some of our greatest naval and land campaigns over the years, none more so than the Napoleonic Wars of the late 18th and early 19th century. We will celebrate the great achievements of Nelson, Wellington and Admiral Lord Cochrane as we learn about the man Napoleon named ‘Le Loup des Mers’ (‘the sea wolf’). His colourful life, courageous spirit and advanced sea battle tactics inspired the likes of Patrick O’Brian and C S. Forester.
