Graham BellGraham Bell is a well-known British ornithologist living in Wooler, Northumberland, in north-east England. Educated at Manchester Grammar School and Durham University, he graduated with Honours in French and English, later gaining a Diploma in Education and pursuing a career in teaching. But his chief interest has always been natural history, with birds paramount. Formerly County Bird Recorder for North-East England and editor of three annual County Bird Reports, he was a member of the British Birds Rarities Committee for 14 years and of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Council, Conservation and Education Committees.
He features in “Who’s Who in Ornithology?” A specialist in bird identification (in sight and sound) he regularly lectures and writes on bird topics, contributes weekly to the local press, and is the author and illustrator of several books, including ‘The Top 50 Birds’, ‘Encounters with Birds’, and the ‘Lonely Planet Nature Guide to the Arctic’. He has undertaken various conservation projects at home and abroad and is also Guided Walks Leader for the Northumberland Countryside Service. Founder of several bird clubs for both adults and youngsters, he is currently founder chairman of the North Northumberland Bird Club. He is committed to helping people understand and enjoy nature – particularly birds, his lifelong passion.Graham has travelled widely, studying, drawing and photographing birds in all seven continents, and regularly accompanies expedition cruises all over the world as guest speaker in ornithology, mingling information with a good dose of humour and showing his own slides. |
