Thomas NilsenThomas Nilsen lives in the Norwegian border town of Kirkenes near Russia’s Kola Peninsula. He is editor of BarentsObserver.com, covering Europe’s northernmost region and Arctic issues. Nilsen has been travelling extensively in northern Russia since the late 80's, working with environmental issues, nuclear safety and cross-border cooperation. He regularly lectures on security issues and socio-economic development in the Barents Region. Nilsen has also been a guide at sea and in remote locations in the Russian north for various groups.
